365 Days of Ikebana-Day 127

The lesson for some of our Sogetsu ikebana class tonight was from the Sogetsu textbook #4 Lesson #10 “Vegetables and/ fruits in an arrangement”. We were asked to bring our own materials to class, so I selected some Daikon radishes, orange peppers and cherries for my arrangement. Our Sensei did a short demonstration to show various ways that we could use our materials to make an interesting design. It’s different from the morimono arrangement that is more of a low, spreading design on a surface. You can use a suiban, vase or really any container for this design, the only realy requirement is that it be creative. I brought my low ceramic container, and I used one of the radishes resting on an orange pepper. I added the cherries in various places, and my Sensei suggested handing a few from the radish leaves, so I did. I finished off the design with the other orange pepper and a cherry(on top). At first I had started to select more fall colored/themeed materials(like gourds and squashes) just to stay with the fall theme. But the white radishes caught my attention, and the orange and red did too and I thought the color combination was refreshing and went with that. Plus they’re all things I will eat later!
