365 Days of Ikebana-Day 60

Autumn Colors

Autumn blew in this evening dropping the temperature to more seasonal levels, and so I wanted to do an arrangement that echoed that change. I selected some burr oak branches that had been spotted during an walk earlier in the week. They have a great acorn with a fuzzy cap and I removed of the leaves to give it a sparse look and show more of the acorns. A single fire orange “Free Spirit” rose brought the color I love most at this time of year, and a weathered hosta leaf brought the composition together. At first I wanted to make this arrangement more upright, but it never quite worked and after several tries it gradually became more horizontal. One thing I really wanted to show in this photo was the great shadow that the lighting produced, I think it adds somthing to the total look of the finished piece.
