Wood and Bamboo Strips

Wood and Bamboo Strips

Taking a few materials left over from past projects I did a little experimentation and came up with this. Lately there has been a return to some work with bamboo, something I would love to do more of. I’ll keep the bamboo in mind with some of my works this summer.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful work which is truly inspiring. I really love this arrangement (as I do so many of your others). Great dynamism in this composition and interesting material choice. Amazing that it looks so alive, yet no living material such as leaves or flowers used. Can you reveal how you got the end of the bowed bamboo to meet the branch ends?

It was pretty easy to do. I soaked the bamboo in water for a few hours to make it easier to bend (it still is breakable so bend carefully, just take your time). One pliable I bent and secured the ends with twine or rubber bands to hold, and placed them in shallow water. I used them fresh for some projects and then let them completely dry for this piece.
