Like most ikebana enthusiasts I have lots of containers, some I use over and over and a few that have rarely or never been used. Today I thought I would pull one out and work with it. It’a great piece, but can be difficult to work with. Curved lines are what this black container is all about so I thought I might work some curved lines into the floral part. The equisetum growing in the garden worked so well for those curved lines I wanted, I simply took two long pieces of straight floral wire and used floral tape to make them into one long wire and inserted it into the hollow end of the equisetum. Gently the curve was made in each one to get the shape I wanted and I added a red maple leaf on the end of one stem and a yellow craspedia to the other. So here is my fun piece with movement and great negative space. I like that the two elements make almost a complete shape( the eye fills in the break between the red and yellow to suggest the complete loop) and that they have a bit of conversation going on between them.

Stunning!
I see Miro in this playful composition. Also the negative of the leave with the positive yellow eye makes a sort of face!
