365 Days of Ikebana-Day 150

A very quick post and arrangement tonight, massed flowers using a rock as fixture. In this case the rock acts as the kenzan in a way, it holds the stems of roses, lisianthus, orchid and juniper in place. It’s a small piece, almost like a little landscape or garden.

I like the rock idea. Keith, I was in Phoenix, AZ last week and had my first official ikebana lesson from Ping Wei out there. It was fantastic. I see the need for a teacher. You get so much more than just reading a book. I mentioned your blog and he was familiar with your name. He knew you were out of the DC area. When I told him you were doing one ikebana a day for 365 days, he said “Bless him”., because he knows how hard it is to get it done and post it, etc. He was amazed you were able to do it. I admire you for sticking to it. Ping Wei posted the students work from the day’s lesson on his blog.

I want to add that it is so beautiful here at home in person looking at it on the studio table this afternoon is a delight. The light last evening didn’t do the colors justice. Purple lisianthus doesn’t show as blue as it really is.

Sounds like a great start for you! Ping Wei has a great blog and does fantastic work (and his hand made vessels are pretty incredible too).

Yeah, so many times it’s hard to get the great light at night and really do the work justice. It’s something to improve on also.
