The lesson tonight at my Sogetsu ikebana class was disassembling and rearranging the materials. In the past this lesson has been more radical in the disassembling part, but we were encouraged to use it as more of an examination and study of the materials and how they work together. We were given narcissus and safari sunset protea and went right to work on our individual arrangements. My result was decent, but not easy with the given materials. Maybe it’s the best thing that can happen, to get materials that provide a real challenge expressing the objective of the lesson. Hours later I’m still thinking about what I did in class and how I could have improved on my work, obviously it was a better lesson than I thought.

This is beautiful! I love the lines and the combination of yellow flowers in the black bowl.
