I’m thrilled to share a transformative experience from my recent participation in the International Teachers of Floristry seminar, brilliantly organized by @gregorlersch and @boermainstituutflowerschool. This comprehensive program proved to be an exceptional opportunity for professional growth and creative exploration in the art of floral design.
Throughout the week, we delved deep into three innovative themes that challenged our traditional perspectives on floral artistry. The first theme, ‘Bouquets Waiting for Innovation,’ pushed us to reimagine conventional bouquet structures and explore groundbreaking techniques in flower arrangement. We examined how modern aesthetics and contemporary design principles could be integrated into classical floristry, resulting in fresh, forward-thinking compositions.
The ‘Organic Designs’ portion of the seminar was particularly enlightening, focusing on sustainable practices and nature-inspired arrangements. We discussed the importance of eco-friendly approaches in modern floristry, including the use of seasonal materials, sustainable mechanics, and environmentally conscious design choices. This segment really emphasized how we as florists can contribute to environmental sustainability while creating stunning pieces.
The final theme, ‘Upside Down,’ truly pushed the boundaries of conventional floral design. Working alongside the incredibly talented @fredericdupreflorist and @mgrazialoiacono, we explored gravity-defying arrangements that challenged our understanding of spatial dynamics and structural integrity in floral design. The culmination of this theme was our group project, where we collaborated to create innovative upside-down arrangements that showcased the transformative power of thinking differently about floral art.
What made this seminar particularly valuable was the open exchange of ideas and techniques among all participants. Each instructor brought their unique perspective and expertise to the table, creating a rich learning environment that fostered creativity and professional growth. The collaborative atmosphere allowed us to learn not just from the lead instructors, but from each other’s diverse experiences and approaches.
I’m immensely grateful for the opportunity to learn from and work alongside such accomplished professionals in our field. The knowledge gained, connections made, and creative boundaries pushed during this seminar will undoubtedly influence my work for years to come.
